What to Cook This Weekend

A Sunday breakfast of light, fluffy and rich pancakes would be really fine, as well, either with some apples sautéed in butter or an order of Samin Nosrat’s maple breakfast sausage (easy!). Or both.

I’d like a luncheon of fried eggplant sandwiches. Saturday or Sunday, you choose. Or maybe instead: quickly made, not-at-all-difficult, fun-to-cook-with-children pot-stickers, either with the soy-and-vinegar sauce we call for in the recipe, or drenched in a heated mixture of soy, peanut butter and a lot of chile-scallion oil. That would be so great.

It could be a good weekend for duck ragù on a raft of polenta. Or for a Russian salmon pie. There are thousands and thousands more ideas for what to cook right now and over the weekend at NYT Cooking. Go visit the site and apps, and see what appeals.

Get a subscription if you haven’t already and then save the recipes you want to try into your recipe box, and organize them into folders as you see fit. Then cook and let us know how you did: Rate the recipes with stars; or leave notes on the recipes to remind yourself or alert others to how successfully you substituted leeks for onions, venison for beef, sardines for mackerel.

Now, here is a good long read for you in The California Sunday Magazine: Mark Arax’s profile of Stewart Resnick, the California businessman who is one of the nation’s biggest farmers, with more than 180,000 acres under cultivation in the San Joaquin Valley. The story is about his power, but also and maybe mostly about water. The juxtaposition of those two facts is fascinating.
