Ever since the news broke about Strictly Come Dancing stars 32-year-old Seann and Katya’s, 29, secret smooch Wednesday night, the media furore has continued to intensify.
As soon as pictures emerged of the dance partners giggling and kissing outside a London pub last week, both BBC contestants Seann and Katya posted statements on their Twitter pages the following day.
Katya has been married to her fellow Strictly dancer Neil Jones since 2015, but have been together years longer.
Meanwhile, Seann had been dating his girlfriend of five years and actress Rebecca Humphries, but that quickly changed.
Posting a statement to her own Twitter account in the aftermath of the scandalous events, Rebecca publicly dumped her boyfriend and claimed she was “taking the cat”.
In regards to the hugely popular BBC series, many have been wondering if Seann and Katya will continue throughout the competition.
There has been debate over whether it’s appropriate for the couple to continue their dance – it was reported they were initially set to perform the notoriously sexy Rumba this week – but so far the show has only issued a statement saying Seann and Katya would be performing this week.
Yet it has now been reported things are very different behind the scenes on the show.
According to The Mirror, the show’s producers have been “locked in crisis talks all day”, while “Seann remains in hiding”.
While nothing is confirmed, there are other options for the pair.
For one thing, Seann could be removed from the competition via the public vote this weekend.
If that’s the case, Katya may slip out of the series for the rest of this year, or on the other hand she could continue to perform in the group dances week on week like Susannah Constantine’s former partner Anton du Beke.
The group dances are actually choreographed by Katya’s own husband Neil, but this may not pose a problem as according to the Russian dancer their relationship is still strong.
Posting on her Twitter page, she wrote: “I’m so sorry about any offence or hurt I may have caused with my actions. I wasn’t thinking and it was a one-off mistake after some drinks.
“I love my husband and we are very happy together, this is not a reflection on our relationship.”
Today also saw Conservative politician Ann Widdecombe appear on ITV programme Good Morning Britain to discuss the kiss and her own time on the show in 2010.
When asked about her partnership with Anton, Ann said: “There’s no such thing as the curse of Strictly, it’s just a lack of self-control.”
“I have to say,” the 71-year-old then continued. “If I was Katya’s husband Neil I would demand she quits the show then and there.
“[He should say] ‘I can’t trust you now, you’ve got to leave the show.’”
