The 31-year-old documentary filmmaker was supposed to visit Buckingham Palace yesterday in order to collect her MBE after being honoured for her services to broadcasting.
However, the Strictly Come Dancing hopeful previously revealed she might not make the ceremony due to her hectic schedule of training with professional partner Kevin, 35, which she is currently fitting in around her book tour.
Speaking to It Takes Two presenter Gethin Jones, 40, backstage after dress rehearsals this evening, Stacey Dooley admitted she hadn’t gone to pick up her MBE.
When Gethin commented on how dedicated she must be to Strictly in order to miss such a prestigious event, she replied: “The reason I couldn’t go yesterday was because I was doing a tour as well, so I’d sold the tickets, people had bought them.”
“I prefer this story,” gothic insisted, as the flame-haired beauty joked: “Kev said, ‘If you go and pick that up, we’re over. We’re through.’”
Kevin then piped up in mock outrage, pretending to be offended that training with him was not the real reason she had skipped collecting her MBE from the Palace.
“This is a revelation,” he exclaimed. “I was told it was because I was taking priority, the Foxtrot.
“Now I’ve just learned that’s a lie.”
“No, no, no,” Gethin chipped in. “You are more important than the Queen. What more can you ask for from a partner in terms of commitment?”
“I know, that’s what I was told!” Kevin quipped.
Stacey then proceeded to play along, going back to the original excuse, saying: “No, it’s the truth. It’s the absolute truth.”
She and Kevin have been hard at work in rehearsals, fitted around her tour dates this week, as they get ready to perform the Foxtrot on tomorrow night’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Telling Gethin how the routine was coming along, Stacey said: “I’m feeling pretty good about the Foxy.
“It feels like the same kind of vibe as the Jive for us, training-wise. We feel on good form.”(sic)
“We feel like we’re having a lot of fun with it like we did with the Jive,” Kevin agreed.
Last weekend, Stacey and Kevin dazzled the Stricty judges with their energetic Minion-themed Jive for Movie Week.
They scored an impressive 32 points out of a possible 40, with head judge Shirley Ballas, 57, announcing: “That is a major breakthrough for you.
Praising Stacey for “not missing a beat” she also complimented her steps, kicks and flicks.
Bruno Tonioli, 62, meanwhile, gushed: “You should be very happy and I am delighted.
“You’ve taken all of our comments last week on board, you came back and you were on it.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow at 6.40pm on BBC One.
