Maria Canales, Jane Greenwood – The New York Times

Maria Margarita Canales and Jane Greenwood are to be married June 24 in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. The Rev. Jeffrey H. Gargano, a minister of the Reformed Church in America, is to perform the ceremony at the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow.

Ms. Canales, 59, is an executive assistant in the operations office of the retail business in New York State of Wells Fargo & Company, the bank. She graduated from Pace University and received a master’s degree in both urban planning and in real estate development from M.I.T.

She is a daughter of the late Concepcion Merced Canales, who lived in Orlando, Fla., and the late Pedro Canales who lived in San Juan, P.R. Ms. Canales’s father was the owner of a bar and restaurant in San Juan. Her mother retired as a dressmaker and tailor.

Ms. Greenwood, 63, is an architect and a principal partner in Kostow Greenwood Architects in Manhattan. She graduated from Pratt Institute with an architecture degree.

She is a daughter of the late Hazel J. Greenwood and the late Ronald E. Greenwood, who lived in Rye, N.Y. Ms. Greenwood’s father was the founder and president of the Unicast Development Corporation, a foundry engineering business which was then in Pleasantville, N.Y.

The couple met in 1988 at Pratt in Brooklyn. Ms. Greenwood was a student there and Ms. Canales was an assistant to the chairman of the graduate department of urban planning when a mutual friend tried to set them up, but to no avail. A few months later, Ms. Greenwood invited Ms. Canales to visit her family home on Martha’s Vineyard, where romance ensued. “She saw a different side of me, and I saw different side of her,” Ms. Greenwood said.
