Although she abandoned the tot on the doorstep of the Ahmeds earlier this week on EastEnders, it looked like things were on the up.
Hayley (played by Katie Jarvis) took back the infant, however, she also went back to her mum, Bev (Ashley McGuire).
Despite pleas from Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) claiming Bev was no good, Hayley didn’t listen.
But in tonight’s episode of the BBC soap it looked like Bev was getting ready to help Hayley look after the baby.
She encouraged Hayley to feed the baby but she clearly had other motives as she slowly put more doubts into her head.
Hayley was then back at square one as she believed she wasn’t up to the job to care for the infant.
“I don’t know what I was thinking, I can’t be a mum. I’m just going to ruin her,” poor Hayley blubbed.
Bev replied: “It’s alright.”
“It’s true though,” Hayley replied.
Bev then suggested they could find a new home for the baby.
She said: “Don’t worry about it love, we’ll find her somewhere to go, aye?
“A mum and dad with a house, a real family. Someone who can love her properly.”
But then came the shocking suggestion from the baby’s grandmother.
“And if we can make a few quid out of it, it’s no more than we deserve,” she said to her daughter.
The moment happened in the closing scene of the episode, so viewers didn’t get a chance to see how Hayley would react.
There’s no doubt that Hayley is incredibly vulnerable at the moment and her mum is preying on that for her own gain.
But what will Hayley do?
Social services have already intervened once and they could end up taking the baby away.
Viewers will just have to wait and see if Hayley can get the better of her horrible mum.
EastEnders continues Monday at 8pm on BBC One.
