After a Super Sunday teaser that was long on “Die Hard”-like action, Dwayne Johnson has returned in a new trailer for “Skyscraper” that focuses on the back story. He plays an ex-F.B.I. hostage negotiator and war veteran who lost a leg in combat and married the surgeon (Neve Campbell) who helped save his life.
His wife and two young children face peril when a fire breaks out at the Pearl, the titular structure where he lives and works as a security expert, and they’re trapped inside. To make their rescue even more complicated, he is unjustly blamed for the blaze.
Mr. Johnson has seemed omnipresent on the big screen lately: in recent months, he has starred in the wildly successful “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and the slightly underwhelming “Rampage.” His co-stars here include Pablo Schreiber (“Orange Is the New Black”), and the Singaporean superstar Chin Han.
Written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who collaborated with Mr. Johnson on “Central Intelligence,” the hit 2016 action comedy, “Skyscraper” will reach theaters July 13.
