Former hubby Chris Martin said ‘no’ to Gwen’s wedding invite

Day & Night can reveal that the rocker, 41, who “consciously uncoupled” from Gwyneth, 45, left, in 2014, told the actress it would be “a step too far” for him to be present when she exchanges her vows with producer Brad Falchuk, 46.

“Chris has pulled out of the wedding,” an insider tells Day & Night.

“Gwyneth invited him and he originally agreed.

“They’ve both completely moved on in their love lives. He gets on with Brad and they all spend a great deal of time together but he thought attending the wedding was a step too far.

“Gwyneth was a bit sad, as their children will also be in attendance, but understood.”

Skipping your former partner’s wedding may be considered standard procedure, however Gwyneth and Chris are far from conventional exes.

The pair, who were married for a decade before their split, are among the most amicable celebrity divorcees.

The Coldplay frontman – currently dating Fifty Shades actress Dakota Johnson, 28 – and Gwyneth still routinely go on holiday together with their daughter Apple, 14, and son Moses, 12, and get together for family dinners. Earlier this year the Iron Man star said of Chris: “He’s really like my brother.

“We’re very familial. Divorce is terrible… We wanted our kids to be as unscathed as possible.”

In an interview last month Gwyneth revealed that she doesn’t plan to have a big wedding ceremony, saying: “I think we’ll do something very small. We had a big engagement party, that was the big thing…”

Bill Nighy tells Day & Night that at his age he’s on a “quest” to make a better body of work.

“Lately I’ve been becoming more fussy about choosing roles because you get to my age and think, let’s make everything count,” the Love Actually star tells us at a London screening of his current film, The Bookshop.

Bill Nighy on quest to make BETTER body of work

“I look at the clock and think, let me from now on not do any more borderline things, I want to do things where there is dignity for me, everyone else and the audience. I’m on a quest…”

This led the acclaimed actor to star in the new movie, the story of a woman (played by Emily Mortimer) attempting to re-energise out-of-touch rural townsfolk with stirring literature. Bill plays her best customer.

“I don’t care what genre it is,” he adds.

“People always say to me there is a significant lack of classical work on my CV.

“I don’t mind if it’s a family or kids’ fi lm as long as I’m not a nuisance for anybody.”

When music legend Nile Rodgers gives his pals a present, he goes all out.

Speaking to Day & Night at the Isle of Wight festival Nile, 65, said he bought his pop star friend Lady Gaga a whopper of a present.

“I’m still in touch after we worked together and I sent her something yesterday,” said Nile, who was honoured to be playing the Isle of Wight with his band Chic.

“It’s a $100,000 guitar, with 3,000 gold Swarovski crystals and gold leaf. She and I now have twin guitars, hers is gold and mine is silver.”

When Day & Night suggested they be given the deposit for a small house their request was politely declined.

We spotted towering footballer Peter Crouch dancing away maniacally to rock band Kasabian with the hood of his top pulled over his head.

Sorry, Pete, a hood’s not going to help you stay incognito when you’re 6ft 7in! Meanwhile, we watched as former Oasis hothead Liam Gallagher, 45, appeared to be mellowing with age after pausing during his performance to ask festival-goers to stop having a punch-up: “Isle of Wight, I thought you were meant to be laid back. Stop fighting, man!”

While the audience was stunned into silence by peacemaker Liam, he was soon back on familiar form.

A few songs later he angrily told a fan shining a laser at the stage: “Oi! Laser boy.

“I see you keep shining your laser. Well come on then!” Maybe a slightly mixed message, Liam!

Ed Sheeran stopped his latest concert to go to the loo – twice.

The singer was caught short for the first time in his career in front of 60,000 fans.

And then he had another “wee” problem 10 minutes later. Ed, 27, first halted his Saturday night show at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff after performing his smash hit Galway Girl.

Three songs later he stopped in the middle of singing Photograph, saying “I’m so sorry Cardiff,” before dashing off to the toilet again.

He told the crowd: “I’ve been gigging since I was 14 and I’ve never done that and now I do it in front of 60,000 people.”

One fan said: “I think he was quite embarrassed. I’ve never seen anything like that before.

“He was drinking a lot of bottled water early on because it was so hot.

“It looks like it caught up with him – but it was a great gig with or without the loo breaks.

Looking like a star-struck overgrown schoolboy, ROBBIE WILLIAMS joined TAYLOR SWIFT on stage at Wembley at the weekend.

The 44-year-old made his surprise appearance during 28-year-old Taylor’s second night at Wembley, where she brought him out to perform his most popular track, Angels.

The US pop star began the song solo before deer-in-headlights Robbie arrived on stage – sporting a Taylor T-shirt – to sing the rest of the number with her.

He later shared a photo of them together with the caption: “What an honour to sing with you tonight @taylorswift13 I’ve got a proper crush. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU x” Oh, do calm down, Rob.
